Why 4:12?

Timothy was probably in his teens when he became a ‘student’ of the apostle Paul, traveling with him and undoubtedly gaining vast knowledge in living the Christian life and sharing the gospel of Christ. When Timothy was fulfilling his calling in pastoral ministry, after separating from Paul, he received a letter of encouragement from his teacher, stating “do not let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity” (1 Timothy 4:12 NLT).

Too often, we find the youth of today with a mindset that they cannot influence change. However, we know this not to be true. If we encourage them in the five key areas in which Paul gave Timothy (speech, conduct, love, faith, purity), we believe these youth will find, within themselves and with each other, the power to not only positively influence those around them, but to influence their entire community. The bottom line is, regardless of your age, God can use you!
